DSC/ABS Fault Repair: What it Means and How to Fix it

What do error codes 5DF0 and 5DF1 mean?

Error codes 5DF0 and 5DF1 are unique to various BMW models and are associated with the description "Hydraulic Motor Pump Unit (Connector Faulty)." These codes signal issues with the hydraulic block and/or motor pump of the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system.

They frequently appear in BMW models equipped with an ATE MK61 braking system, which features five pressure sensors instead of one.

What are the symptoms associated with BMW ABS/DSC error codes 5DF0 and 5DF1?

You’ll know that you have a problem when the ABS, DSC and/or handbrake warning light illuminates on the dashboard.

A diagnostic scan might reveal these trouble codes in your ABS system: "5DF0-Hydraulic Unit Pump Motor" and "5DF1-Hydraulic Unit Pump Motor Connector Faulty". While these codes might disappear temporarily, they are likely to return and become permanent faults.

Which models do these error codes occur in?

These fault codes can also occur in various BMW motorcycles, such as the BMW F650 S, F800 S, K1200 series, K1300 series, K1600 series and R1200GS.

How to resolve BMW ABS/DSC error codes 5DF0 and 5DF1

Begin by inspecting the ground cable for any signs of a poor connection, particularly on the E90/E91 models. Replace the ground cable if needed. If the issue persists, it is likely that the ABS/DSC system is faulty.

At ACTRONICS, we perform overhauls on these types of ABS systems, and extensively test and remanufacture the hydraulic block and motor pump.
