Volkswagen Golf 7 Instrument cluster

The Volkswagen Golf has been one of the most sought-after cars in Europe for many years. Since the first generation about 45 years ago, the car has proved unabatedly popular. In 2012, Volkswagen introduced the seventh generation of this hatchback, which was in production for eight years.

If you take a look at the design of the car, you will see that the Golf 7 looks much sleeker and more streamlined than the Golf 6. But a lot has also changed under the skin. The car is lighter, more economical and safer. All good news for the motorist with which Volkswagen honors the good name of the Golf. The car was named European Car of the Year in 2013.

If we look in more detail at the instrument cluster, it is remained virtually unchanged visually compared to its predecessor. The tachometer on the left, the display in the middle and the speedometer on the right. It is a design that Volkswagen has adhered to for years. The only change that has been made over the years is that the fuel gauge and the temperature gauge have become part of the two larger dials. Since the Golf 4 that came on the market in 1997, Volkswagen has therefore used practically the same layout. The Golf 7 instrument cluster is also analog, just like its predecessors. The Transporter T6 and Touran 5T1 that have been on the market since 2015 also still have an analog dashboard. It is only from the Golf MK8 (available since 2020) that is delivered with a digital instrument cluster.

Golf 7 Instrument Cluster Common Problems

Although the instrument cluster may not be described as progressive, various problems can also occur with this dashboard over time. The most common of these are:

  • Gauges do not work or get stuck (often this is the fuel gauge)
  • Gauge lighting goes out
  • Lights / LEDs in the instrument cluster do not work
