What does this error code mean?

Error code P0810 immediately provides a clear description of the problem. For those who regularly have had an Vauxhall or Ford in the workshop before, all alarm bells will go off when they see this error code. Honda, like Vauxhall and Ford, used the same technology between 2005 and 2015: a robotized manual gearbox. This error code is also read on models equipped with the I-Shift Clutch Actuator, Honda's version of the well-known Vauxhall Easytronic and Ford Durashift transmission control unit.

Symptoms of the I-Shift error code P0810

When this fault code occurs, the car will likely go into limp mode and an orange warning light will illuminate on the instrument panel. This light can be recognized by an orange exclamation mark placed inside in a gear icon. In addition, the comfort of switching gears will be disturbed. Upshifting is slow and feels unpleasant. Additionally, the following problems may occur:

  • The car does not start
  • The gearbox does not shift to the correct gear
  • The 'N' symbol flashes on the dashboard
  • Mechanical sound when a gear is activated

In combination with error code P0810, error codes P0909, P1919 and P19FC can also be diagnosed.

Causes of the error code

In many cases the malfunction is caused by a defective TCM. However, sometimes the malfunction can be caused by a problem with the clutch.
