How to repair the Virtual Cockpit in the Volkswagen Golf Mk7.5

Active Info Display, Digital Cockpit, Virtual Cockpit: these are all terms used to describe the digital instrument panel in the Volkswagen Golf 7.5. The original Volkswagen Golf 7, released in 2012, was still equipped with an analogue instrument panel. It was only with the facelift in 2017, which brought the Golf 7.5, that the Active Info Display was introduced, with which the digital instrument panel found its way into the Golf models. Instead of traditional analogue gauges, the Virtual Cockpit has a 12.3-inch screen that, according to Volkswagen, “presents all the details with the utmost precision in an elegant way.” In terms of marketing language, it sounds fantastic, but the system actually offers significant practical benefits.

The Active Info Display can be personalised using various display options. For example, you can choose the classic view, but also the ‘Navigation’ profile, which gives you a large navigation screen with the familiar gauges on the side of the display.

Common faults in the Virtual Cockpit of the Volkswagen Golf 7.5

Common problems that can occur with the Virtual Cockpit of the Volkswagen Golf 7.5 include:

  • Front Assist and/or Lane Assist do not work; the indicator does not make a sound.
  • Cruise control or distance radar does not function properly.
  • The trip meter does not work; an error message appears on the display. Error code B2000-41 is stored.
