Repair of the Virtual Cockpit from the Volkswagen Passat B8 (2014-2023)

Active Info Display, Digital Cockpit, Virtual Cockpit: these are different names for the digital instrument panel of the Volkswagen Passat B8. In 2014, this model was the first Volkswagen to be equipped with the Active Info Display, as the component was called in the initial phase. Initially, this digital instrument panel was only used in the more luxurious versions, such as the Highline, but later it found wider application. Instead of traditional analogue meters, the Virtual Cockpit has a 12.3-inch screen that, in the words of Volkswagen, “presents all details with utmost precision in an elegant way.” Nice marketing language, but in addition to the modern appearance, this system also offers real practical advantages.

Thanks to the various display options, the Active Info Display can be personalised. In addition to a classic display, you can, for example, opt for the 'Navigation' profile. This displays a large navigation screen, while the speedometer and other meters are subtly displayed on the side of the screen.

Known issues with the Virtual Cockpit in the Volkswagen Passat

Common faults in the Volkswagen Passat Active Info Display include:

  • Front Assist and/or Lane Assist do not work; indicator does not make a sound.
  • Cruise control or distance radar does not function.
  • The trip meter does not work; an error message appears on the display. Error code B2000-41 is stored.
  • Defective display.
