About Smart
Smart is a car brand of the German company Daimler, focused on the production of city cars. It was founded in 1994. The first model was the Smart Fortwo, which went into production in 1998 under the name City in Cabrio and Coupé versions. It was replaced in 2002 by the Smart Crossblade.
A year later, more models were launched. The second generation Smart City, renamed ForTwo the following year, and the Smart Roadster. The last generation ForTwo went into production in 2007 and is now the only Smart product (a third generation is planned for 2012).
In the meantime, however, the ForFour, the Fortwo ED and, for the Japanese market, the Smart K came onto the market in 2008. Besides Europe, Smart cars are sold in North and South America, Asia and Australia. The company is headquartered in Böblingen, Germany, and also has a factory in Hambach, France.
