DQ200 DSG – U0101 Fault Code (Lost TCM Communication)

The DQ200 is a seven-speed DSG transmission with a dry clutch, developed by the Volkswagen Group. It has been widely used since 2007 in models from Audi, Volkswagen, Seat, and Škoda. The DQ200 is designed primarily for vehicles with transversely mounted engines and is suitable for up to 250Nm of torque.

The heart of this impressive transmission is the mechatronics, which houses the electronic TCU. This module controls the clutches and gears based on signals from a variety of sensors and controls the buildup of hydraulic pressure.

What does the VAG / VW U0101 Fault code mean?

U0101 – Lost Communication with Transmission Control Module (TCM)

This error code indicates that communication with the TCM is not possible. The transmission electronics are inaccessible. In practice, this almost always indicates an internal malfunction in the DQ2000 AM's mechatronics.

Symptoms of the U0101 fault code

These error codes can manifest themselves in the following complaints:

No gear indicator on the dashboard
Transmission won't shift or gets stuck in one gear
Emergency mode
Diagnostic equipment does not connect to the TCM

This error code is often read in combination with other error codes such as P17BF, P189C or P1895.

The cause of error code U0101 is almost always found in the mechatronics itself. A complete replacement is rarely necessary. In most cases, aaremfacturing is the solution.
