Diagnostic help: B1624 – BPGA module (PSA Battery Control Unit)
The BPGA module is a vital component in the electrical system of various PSA vehicles. This advanced fuse box monitors battery voltage, regulates power distribution, and communicates with other control units via the CAN network. Without a properly functioning BPGA, the entire vehicle will experience electrical problems.
Which models have error code B1624?
These error codes are commonly seen on the following PSA models:
- Citroën C4 (Grand) SpaceTourer (from 2016)
- Citroën C4 (Grand) Picasso (2013 – 2022)
- Citroën Jumpy (from 2016)
- Peugeot 308 (2013 – 2021)
- Peugeot 3008 (2016 – 2023)
- Peugeot 5008 (2016 – 2024)
- Peugeot Expert (from 2016)
- Toyota Proace (from 2016)
Symptoms of error code B1624
When error code B1624 occurs, it indicates an internal error in the BPGA module. The following symptoms are commonly reported:
- The vehicle will not start or has difficulty starting
- The mirrors no longer fold open after unlocking the car
- Dashboard remains completely black or shows random error messages
- No communication is possible with multiple ECUs via diagnostic equipment
- Error messages such as "Electrical system fault", "Charging system faulty" or "Check battery"
Cause of error code B1624
Error code B1624 specifically means that the BPGA itself has detected a problem in the internal electronics. This can have several causes:
- Internal component error (e.g. faulty voltage regulator or microcontroller)
- Overload or short circuit in the power supply circuit
- Water damage or oxidation due to leakage
- Damage due to voltage peaks (for example, when jump-starting incorrectly)
Please note: although the cause often lies in the module itself, it is important to ensure that the power lines (12V and ground) and the CAN wiring are OK.
Revision as a solution
There's a good chance the BPGA module is the culprit for error code B1624. Fortunately, at ACTRONICS, we can professionally recondition this module. During the reconditioning process, all vulnerable components are preventively replaced, and the module is subjected to a functional test. This prevents recurrent failures and guarantees reliability.
