The Bosch MEV17.4 ECU is an incredibly common ECU, fitted in a variety of models built by Peugeot and Citroën, amongst others. This ECU, whilst known for its compact design and advanced injector, ignition and lambda controls, is also known for some common internal malfunctions.

What does error code P0141 mean?

  • P0141 – O2 Sensor Heater Circuit High Voltage (Bank 1 Sensor 2)

The fault code indicates that the heater element of the second oxygen sensor (sensor 2) on bank 1 is registering an abnormally high voltage signal. The heating element is essential for quickly bringing the sensor up to operating temperature and allowing it to provide accurate measurements.

Whilst excessively high-voltage signals can indicate a fault sensor or broken wire, it can also be an issue within the engine ECU.

What vehicles could be affected?

The Bosch MEV17.4 ECU is used in a wide range of PSA vehicles with 1.4 and 1.6-litre VTI gasoline engines (from 2006 onwards). These include:

What are the symptoms of a P0141 fault code?

  • The engine malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is on
  • Increased fuel consumption
  • Irregular idle speed
  • Bad cold start
  • Reduced engine performance

In many cases, the car will drive normally, though the engine will often be less efficient, the emissions values will climb, and the drivability could be impacted.

The solution for P0141

First, you must check and inspect the lambda sensor and the fuses. This fault can be caused by low-quality aftermarket lambda sensors. If there are no problems, the ECU is likely to be the culprit.
