Mercedes-Benz 722.8 TCU: Speed Sensor Faults
What fault codes should you look out for?
Faulty speed sensors are often associated with a variety of DTC fault codes. The most well-known examples, and those that we see regularly, are:
- P0720 – Speed Gradient nPrimGrd > nPrimGrdMax
- P0722 – The RPM signal from component Y3/9b5 (CVT output rpm sensor) is not available
- P0793 – Intermediate Shaft Speed Sensor Circuit No Signal
- P0794 – Intermediate Input Shaft Speed Sensor Signal
What cars are potentially at risk?
What causes these fault codes?
The root cause of these fault codes lies buried deep within the 722.8 transmission. The TCU uses speed sensors, Y3/9B4 and Y3/9B5. They're controlled by the main circuit board, and that means that simply replacing the sensors is unlikely to resolve the issue. These repairs require our expert remanufacturing techniques.
Our advice in case of error codes P0720 / P0722 / P0793 / P0794
Faced with any of the above codes, the answer is simple. Remanufacturing is a cost-effective, timely alternative to ordering new replacement parts. The problems that impact these TCU units are often buried deep within the PCB and thus require our specialist techniques to resolve.
As with all our products, we provide a plug & play service that is backed by a two-year warranty.
