Fiat P0352 fault code: What does it mean? The troublesome P0352 fault code can present in multiple Fiat models and relates to the 1.2-litre 8-valve petrol engine, that has been in use since the late 1990s. The fault is described as “Ignition coil B primary/secondary, interruption/short circuit of cylinder 2” This engine can be found in many models, including but not limited to:
Fiat Panda (119/223)
Fiat Panda (169)
Fiat Punto (188)
Fiat Seicento (187)
What symptoms does the P0352 fault code cause?
Once the fault code is stored in the engine ECU, in most cases the engine management light will be illuminated. The driver could also notice rough running, or an irregular idle, potentially even an engine that is not running on all four cylinders. This could be caused by a missing coil control signal. What to do if your Fiat has a P0352 fault code stored? Unfortunately, if you’re experiencing some of the symptoms mentioned above and your car has the P0352 fault code stored, there is a high possibility that your ECU has failed. Typically, we see this failure occurring with he Magneti Marelli IAW 59F. Each ECU has two ignition drivers, with each driver controlling a coil that provides the ignition for 2-cylinders (DIS ignition). In some cases, this error code is found alongside the P0351 fault code. The mounted directly to the engine, for example in the Fiat Punto, in these cases the additional heat and vibrations can cause faults, whereas in the Seicento the unit is mounted on the chassis leg.
Please note: We have seen that the P0352 fault code is also commonly seen in the Fiat Stilo. In the case of the Stilo, this fault is often caused by the engine overheating. The Stilo, however, is fitted with a Magneti Marelli IAW 5NF ECU, which is mounted to the engine. This fault can lead to rough running or jerking as well as in some cases failure to start. A ‘Loose Connection’ message can be displayed on the dashboard. This fault can be accompanied by other error codes such as P0202, P0203, P0204, P0353, P0354 or P0443. In this case, inspect the fuse box located in the engine bay for moisture and oxidation and verify the integrity of the earth connections.
