The P0638 error code relates to a common problem with the Renault’s 1.2-litre 8-valve petrol engine. The fault code described as “Throttle Actuator Control Range Performance Bank 1”. It indicates that there are possible problems within the throttle body, the fault code occurs most commonly in the following Renault models:
We’ve also discovered this fault can occur with Dacia models that share the same engine, the Logan and Sandro for example.
What symptoms does the P0638 error code cause?
Drivers will notice that their car is no longer driving smoothly. The internal contamination in the throttle body can cause the throttle valve to malfunction, causing the air-fuel ratio to become unbalanced. This leads to engine lean or rich running condition. If the car continues to be driven with a contaminated throttle body, this part will become increasingly affected and the unbalanced air-fuel ratio will be affected further.
Top Tip: In some cases, the P0638 error code can appear in combination with the error code DF079 (Motorised Throttle Unit Control).
