Modern-day BMW ABS Modules

The manufacturing of most ABS and ESP units has been dominated by ATE Teves (now part of Continental AG) for a decade. They both offer a wide variety of products and even produce a line of premium units for luxurious brands, such as BMW.

While ABS unit manufacture is only improving, faulty or poorly manufactured components within the unit can still cause failure. Some of the common issues with BMW ABS units are malfunctions on pump motors, multiple wheel sensor failure, no communication with the ABS control unit and other various sensor failures.

Similar to its fellow luxury German car manufacturer, Mercedez Benz, BMW does not stick to using one manufacturer for its ABS units. It assesses the suitability of units with each new model to best optimise ABS performance across multiple ranges. The most common BMW ABS repair units we deal with are the ATE Teves Mk60 and the MK60e (also known as the MK61).

FAQs

What is ABS?

An anti-lock braking system (ABS) is a braking technology designed to help cars brake quicker and prevent locking up and skidding. It does this by applying the brake force in a pulsating motion, applying small amounts of force at a time. By doing this, the system applies the maximum braking force possible before the wheels lock up, releasing and repeating until the brake pedal is no longer engaged. ABS units are composed of wheel speed sensors, hydraulic valves, ABS pumps, and ABS control units. The sensors at each wheel send information back to the ABS control units, which modulate braking to prevent locking up.

Why should I get my BMW ABS module remanufactured rather than repaired?

Simply repairing faulty units restores them to their original, factory condition. There is no guarantee that within a certain amount of time, the same faults will not re-emerge as the weaknesses of the unit were not addressed during repair.

For many car owners trying to deal with their BMW ABS issue, taking their car to their local BMW ABS repair service provider will typically mean a more costly experience. The ordering and fitting of a brand new component will cost far more than a remanufactured component.

Repairing simply takes faulty components, and replaces them with factory-condition originals. Any weaknesses inherent in the component are not addressed, and the car owner may run into the same issue in the future.

We are equipped to deal with BMW ABS pump repair and remanufacturing, as well as for the sensors, modules, reluctor rings and much more.

Is remanufacturing good for the environment?

Yes. Remanufacturing does not demand the same quantity of raw materials as manufacturing, since the entire casing and unit will still be reused, minus a few faulty components. Energy can also be saved since the remanufacturing process is not as energy-intensive as manufacturing is. By opting for a remanufacturing solution for your BMW ABS repair, you are preventing more waste from reaching landfills. Repaired parts may also have a very limited shelf life, and would ultimately need to be discarded and replaced with a brand new part. In every way imaginable, remanufacturing is more environmentally friendly than buying a new part.

Where is the ABS located in the car?

ABS units are composed of multiple components, but sensors can be found within all four wheel hubs, and the ABS control unit is typically found in the bonnet, near to the engine. Please refer to your manufacturer's guide if you are unsure of its location.

How much will a BMW ABS repair cost?

The price of an order depends on the make and model of the ABS unit, the make and model of the car and other factors we can only assess with our own eyes. Please scroll to the top of the page to look through the ABS units we remanufacture, or enter the part you’re after into the search function at the top of the page. Once you enter all the necessary details, please fill out the order page and we’ll provide you with a quote.
